About the work
The landscapes of Northern New Mexico have long been a source of inspiration for my work. The extraordinary light of this region—brilliant, shifting, and endlessly expressive—transforms familiar mountains, valleys, rivers, and adobe homes into something both timeless and alive. Through painting, I seek to capture not only what I see, but what I feel when I stand beneath those vast skies and witness the colors of the land come alive.
My paintings are rooted in place, yet they are not intended as literal representations. Instead, I use vibrant color, expressive brushwork, and simplified forms to convey the spirit and energy of the landscape. The red mesas, winding streams, golden fields, cottonwoods, and rural roads of Northern New Mexico become visual pathways into memory, imagination, and connection.
As an artist, I am drawn to the meeting point between observation and emotion. The land is constantly changing with the seasons, weather, and light, and each painting becomes an interpretation of those fleeting moments. I am especially inspired by the contrast between the rugged earth and the luminous sky, the quiet presence of small homes within vast landscapes, and the enduring relationship between people and the natural world.
My hope is that these paintings invite viewers to slow down, to experience the beauty and wonder of the Southwest, and to reconnect with the sense of freedom, belonging, and possibility that can be found in wild places. Through color, movement, and light, I celebrate the landscapes that continue to inspire me and the enduring spirit of Northern New Mexico.
